Eight Seasons: Italian Baroque meets Argentinian TangoA performance bursting with life and brilliance as the Scottish Ensemble and soloist/director Jonathan Morton and Pekka Kuusisto perform Vivaldi's famed violin concerto The Four Seasons paired with Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Savour the classic elegance of Vivaldi’s Italy and feel the dancing rhythms of tango genius Astor Piazzolla’s South America in a breath-taking combination of 18th Century Italy and 20th Century Argentina.About the concert:The concerts will see the unique pairing of artistic director Jonathan Morton and soloist Pekka Kuusisto, performing the Eight Seasons. For the first time Kuusisto is set to be soloist in a performance of Vivaldi’s ever popular Four Seasons. Meanwhile Morton will bring to life the blazing brilliance and passion of Piazzolla’s tango-inspired rhythms in the complementary Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Originally created for Gidon Kremer, the Eight Seasons is inspired by the notion that at any time two seasons co-exist - as the northern hemisphere shivers in the winter storms, so the southern hemisphere basks in the summer sun. The performance will see works by the two composers interleafed starting with Vivaldi’s Spring Concerto, moving through the seasons to Piazzolla’s own depiction of Spring completing a seamless, unending cycle. |
