The Atrium Quartet is
a winner of two of the most prestigious International Competitions for
String Quartet: First prize and Audience Prize of the 9th London
International String Quartet Competition in 2003 and Grand-Prix of the 5th
International String Quartet Competition in Bordeaux in 2007. Founded in
2000 in St Petersburg under the inspiration of Professor Josef Levinson, the
Quartet graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire in 2003 and then
completed their education in Amsterdam coached by Prof. Stefan Metz at the
Netherland String Quartet Academy (2006-2007) and in Conservatoire Hanns
Eisler in Berlin (2007-2009) with Prof. Eberhard Feltz. The Quartet has
also been coached by famous musicians from the Alban Berg Quartet, Vermeer
Quartet, Tokyo Quartet and by Walter
Levin.
Recent highlights for the Atrium Quartet have included
recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall in London, Library of
Congress in Washington, Frick Museum in New York, Les Invalides in Paris,
BOZAR in Brussels, De Doelen in Rotterdam, Conservatoire du Geneva,
L'Auditori in Barcelona, Philharmonic Hall in St Petersburg, Toppan Hall in
Tokyo, as well as recitals at prestigious Festivals such as the
Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Schwetzingen
Festival in Germany, Colmar Festival in France, Orlando Festival in the
Netherlands, Haydn International Festival in Eszterhaza in Hungary and Davos
Festival in Switzerland.
Season 2009-2010 started with succsessful debut tour of
the Quartet in Japan, immediately after that the Quartet was invited for
return visit in season 2010-2011. Concerts in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin and
London, Luzern Festival in Switzerland, festivals in the Netherlands,
Germany and France scheduled for the current season.
The Atrium Quartet’s
discography includes a CD of works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich
made for EMI Classics and a DVD ‘Live in Concert’ in the Netherlands with
music by Tchaikovsky. A recent CD was recorded in Paris in 2008 for Zig-Zag
Territories (Beethoven Quartet Op.74 in E flat, and Shostakovich Quartet
No.5, Op.92), and was Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice in November 2008. The new
CD with works by spanish composer Jordi Cervallo will be recorded in
december 2009 and released in Spain in the beginning of 2010.
The Quartet currently resides in
Berlin, Germany.
