Founded by William Conway and Peter Evans in 1991, the Hebrides
Ensemble is a flexible sized chamber group which explores the rich variety of
works for unusual instrumental combinations. Its programmes aim to contrast and
illuminate the familiar and unfamiliar, and to cover a wide range of periods and
styles, with a particular emphasis on the work of Scottish based composers.
The Ensemble has brought together some of the most outstanding
Scottish and Scottish-based instrumentalists, many of them present or former
members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
In addition to promoting its own concert series, Hebrides has
been invited on three occasions to appear at the Edinburgh International
Festival, as well as Glasgow's Mayfest and other festivals and music clubs
throughout the country. Many of the Hebrides's programmes have been broadcast on
BBC Radio 3, and the Ensemble has also made several appearances on BBC TV.
