McOpera (Music Co-OPERA-tive Scotland) comprises musicians from Scottish Opera. They present a wide range of concerts for small and large ensembles, weddings, corporate events and concerts for children. It was formed in 2012 to provide a diverse and exciting range of performances in Scotland. Their scope extends from small groups of instrumentalists to full opera productions and the performance of new works.

The Soldier’s Tale Trio is a short instrumental suite written by Stravinsky for violin, clarinet and piano using material taken from his larger septet version of the same title. In this updated version, the suite is presented with live-edited animated film commissioned from artist Derek Gray (https://www.derekgrayart.co.uk ) and Edinburgh-based film maker Roddy Simpson (http://www.roddysimpson.com/video-opera.html)

Written in the aftermath of World War 1, it tells the story of a soldier returning home who makes a bargain with the devil, trading his violin for unlimited economic gain. All is well until he realises that it is not material worth which is important in life - instead it is those such as family, music and love which should prevail. First performed in 1919, the music has jazz influences in rhythm and this the original short version for violin, clarinet and piano.

The concert is presented by Flora Munro  and the McOpera Ensemble is led by violinist Katie Hull. Flora acts as a presenter, narrator, and is also a jazz singer.
